Neal Martin Vinous 91-93 – "The 2020 Poujeaux was picked from September 17 to October 2 and matured in one-third new oak. It has a broody nose initially, gradually opening to display blackberry, brine and crushed rock aromas, certainly quite mineral-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and fine grip, though the tannins are not aggressive. There is a hint of dark chocolate toward the finish, but maybe I’m seeking a little more on the aftertaste. This should gain more length during its élevage. Very fine."
Jane Anson Decanter 92 – "Good depth of colour to the fruit, deep plum, with attractive fresh fruit aromatics. Confident tannic frame with acidity and black fruits - all the elements to ensure it will age. There isn't the richness of the fruit that you will find in 2016 but it is full of personality and easy to recommend. One of the more successful wines from Moulis in the vintage. Lots of tannins, and a point of bitterness on the close of play that needs to be carefully handled during ageing. A yield of 34hl/ha."
Lisa Perrotti-Brown Wine Advocate 85-87 – "The 2020 Poujeaux is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, harvested from 17th September to 2nd October and weighing in with an alcohol of 13.5% and a pH of 3.89. It is being aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 33% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sings of crushed red and black currants, black raspberries and bay leaves with touches of tobacco and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate is a little skinny and chewy at this nascent stage, finishing on an herbal note."
Chris Kissack Winedoctor 93-95 – "From an estate owned by the Cuvelier family, run by managing director Christophe Labenne, this is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, harvested between September 17th and October 2nd. The yield was just 34 hl/ha. Dark, with a black cherry rim, the nose here presents the aromas of sweet blackberry, blackcurrant, slate and tobacco. A cool and rather mineral showing on the palate, with sweet dark fruits, showing nice textural depths, with gravelly and minerally tones to the dry, dark, savoury fruits. The tannic grip is firm, but tightly knit together, while the finish is filled with slate and currant fruits and a lacing of those tobacco-tinged fruits. An excellent result in this vintage, and one which should continue to impress over many years. The declared alcohol is 13.5%, and the élevage here will be in 33% new oak, for about 12 months. Chapeau! Two separate samples tasted, including one direct from the château, with consistent results."
