Jane Anson 93 – "Chocolate block, rosemary, cracked pepper, this has spicy depths and a rich texture. A big St Emilion in a big vintage, with black cherry and damson fruit balanced by rosemary and sage herbal notes, stays just on the right side of controlled, and on the right side of heat. A little closed on the finish with a dash of bitter aniseed, but that is entirely in line with this type of construction, and will soften over ageing. Juice on the close of play. 40% new barrels."
